Swaziland

Swaziland is one of the world’s last remaining absolute monarchies and World Vision started work here in 1987. Swaziland has the second-highest rate of HIV/AIDS infection in the world; life expectancy is only 41 years of age.

Shiselweni Area Development Programme was established with World Vision Ireland in 1999 and is working hard to educate people about HIV/AIDS to prevent the spread of the disease. The harrowing effects of the disease are felt in most households where food and income are low.

Gifts such as a water irrigation system and seeds allow families to grow their own garden vegetables which offer a steady source of food and items to sell in the local market.
