Kenya

World Vision has been active in Kenya since 1974. Our initial involvement which focused on emergency relief following drought and food distribution soon grew to the development of a number of Area Development Programmes (ADPs). World Vision Ireland is partnering with three long-term projects: Gakungu, Mutonguni and Mwala.

Gakungu ADP is in its final year with World Vision Ireland. The hard work of the community over the past 15 years has paid off and they are ready to continue on their own. Pauline McLynn visited Gakungu in 2008 and shares here experience in this video.

Since 2005 World Vision Ireland is working in partnership with 65,000 people in Mutonguni. Our focus in the area is on providing water and food security after long periods of drought. HIV/AIDS and the lack of facilities for the diagnosis of common illnesses are affecting the entire community.

One of our newest ADPs is Mwala. World Vision Ireland is working with the community in assessing their most urgent needs. The assessment is the first step on the road to self-sufficiency for the community.
